By car:
From the north or south: follow the A1 towards Newcastle which takes you around the west side of the city. Leave the A1 at the junction with the A167/A696 and follow the signs for the 'City Centre'. Take the A167 exit marked "Universities and Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) and Eldon Square" (B1318, City North) which brings you on to Claremont Road.
If travelling from the west: follow the A69 to the junction with the A1 and travel northbound. Leave the A1 at the next junction (City West, Westerhope, B6324) and follow the signs for City Centre A167. Leave at the exit marked "Universities, Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) and Eldon Square" (B1318, City North) and turn left at the mini-roundabout. This takes you on to Claremont Road, and the University Entrance.
By rail:
Newcastle Central Station is situated on Britain’s east coast main line linking England and Scotland, and is directly accessible from London King's Cross, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The journey from London King's Cross can be expected to take between three and four hours. On arrival in Newcastle Central Station, taxis are usually available immediately outside (though there can sometimes be a queue). A Metro station is also located in the Central Station and the nearest Metro station to our offices is Haymarket. Alternatively, we are about 10-15 minutes walk from Central Station.
By air:
Newcastle International Airport is only about seven miles north west of Newcastle University. Planes from the airport go directly to many cities in the UK and Ireland, and also fly directly to and from many other European and international destinations. On arrival, taxis may be immediately available at the taxi rank outside, depending on when you arrive, and can be booked from the Information Desk. A taxi into the city centre should take about 15 minutes.
By ferry:
The North Shields International Ferry Terminal is approximately seven miles east of Newcastle. Ferries run to Newcastle from a number of European countries, including Norway, Holland and Sweden. You can also sail from Rotterdam (Holland) and Zeebrugge (Belgium) to Hull, which is approximately two and a half hours (150 miles) south of Newcastle by car.
