Biography

Andy is co-founder of LyraChem and is chief adviser in the synthetic chemistry area of operations.

A graduate of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, after completing his PhD, he left the UK to pursue a post-doctoral research position with Professor Kelly at Boston College, MA, USA.  He then spent two years with Ciba-Geigy plc before joining the chemistry department of UMIST, where he remained for twelve years before being promoted to Reader in the department of chemistry at Durham University. Andy’s main areas of expertise are synthetic and physical organic chemistry, specifically focused on development of novel catalysts, applications of new synthetic methodology towards the synthesis of complex natural products, and bioactive chemistry (including the use of retinoids to control stem cell differentiation).

Andy's research themes are at the forefront of innovation in modern chemistry and are particularly relevant to the diverse challenges facing companies in the fine and pharmaceutical industry's today.
