Mission Statement We operate at the interface between chemistry and process engineering. Our approach is based on the view that full process understanding is at the heart of achieving tight process control with consistent product quality. Under conventional development regimes, integrating disciplines in order to achieve the required level of understanding is often difficult due to managerial constraints, cultural differences and cross-disciplinary language barriers. The incomplete process understanding that results frequently leads to technical risk (due to unwelcome surprises during scale-up), protracted development campaigns (due to a ‘trial and error’ approach), and unacceptable variation in product quality. In the worst cases, batch failures may result. Achieving process control requires an understanding of the relationships between small-scale chemical behaviour and large-scale process operations. Our philosophy is to therefore apply complementary disciplines in order to fully understand both chemical and physical phenomena that govern chemical processes. At LyraChem we have learnt to overcome the aforementioned difficulties by operating in multidisciplinary cells of chemists, engineers and statisticians, and we are thus able to deliver a unique combination of complementary technologies directed towards achieving comprehensive process understanding.
